BeamIt™ Fault Distance Monitor |
|
|
The BeamIt™ Fault Distance Monitor delivers price and performance advantages over competing products. Up to 40% savings can be realized in material cost, and much more significant savings can be realized during the installation and operation of the unit. The BeamIt™ Fault Distance Monitor is used to quickly identify the cable fault location on a primary underground distribution circuit, so that power can be restored.
A single BeamIt™ Fault Distance Monitor is installed at the normal open-point. The unit monitors the entire circuit (loop or radial) from the normal open-point to the source fuse. This eliminates the need to install Fault Circuit Indicators in every transformer. The installation time is about equivalent to that of a single Fault Circuit Indicator, however, an average loop circuit can have 12 or more transformers. Outfitting a circuit with Fault Circuit Indicators can therefore take more than 12 times as long.
Reliability can also be improved by reducing the customer minutes of electric service interruption. This is achieved by having a single location to access for fault information rather than trying to hunt down a series of transformers to read Fault Circuit Indicators or applying a less desirable divide and re-fuse method. The BeamIt™ Fault Distance Monitor provides a distance reading from the normal open-point to the fault. The distance to the fault is compared to the circuit map to identify switching locations required to quickly restore power to customers.
The BeamIt™ Fault Distance Monitor is interrogated through a wireless infrared interface, using a handheld device. Remote Monitoring Systems provides software for the handheld device that requires the operator to touch one button for automatic transfer of fault information and display of distance to fault. |
