MapIt™ Fault Distance Monitor |

The MapIt™ Fault Distance Monitor is an extension
to your Outage Management System. The circuit map viewer that
resides on a truck-mounted computer is use to locate primary
underground cable failures without getting out of the truck. Remote
Monitoring Systems provides a
radio modem and software that
integrates into the truck-mounted computer’s circuit map viewer. The
radio modem is used to communicate with a Fault Distance Monitor
that is installed inside a pad mount transformer. The Fault Distance
Monitor captures fault events and reports the distance to the fault.
The reported distance is indicated graphically on the corresponding
cable segment, which instantly identifies the required switching
points for quick power restoration. The process involves openings the circuit map viewer for the failed circuit, click on the transformer at the normal open-point, and planning the switching operations based on the reported faulted cable section/location. It does not get any easier than this. The MapIt™ Fault Distance Monitor is particularly attractive to utilities with back lot and otherwise hard to access transformers. Not only can this all be achieved at prices up to 20% below that of Fault Circuits Indicators, it also accelerates the return on investment into outage manage systems. In addition to significantly reducing the customer minutes of electric service interruption, the MapIt™ Fault Distance Monitor is installed at a the normal open-point of a loop or radial circuit. The entire circuit is monitored from the normal open-point to the source fuse. This eliminates the need to install Fault Circuit Indicators in every transformer. The installation time is about equivalent to that of a single Fault Circuit Indicator, however, an average loop circuit can have 12 or more transformers. Outfitting a circuit with Fault Circuit Indicators can therefore take more than 12 times as long.
